About Krinkled White Peony Bulbs
Paeonia lactiflora ‘Krinkled White’
Breeder: A.M. Brand | Introduced: 1928 | Origin: Minnesota, USA | Type: Single Herbaceous Peony | Hardiness: Zones 3–8
🤍 Crisp white petals, a golden center and a little bit of crinkle—Krinkled White proves a peony doesn't need hundreds of petals to be spectacular.
Krinkled White is an elegant American heirloom peony with large single white flowers surrounding a glowing center of golden-yellow stamens.
But look closely at those petals.
They're softly waved and crinkled, almost like fine crepe paper or rumpled white linen, giving the flowers movement and texture without taking away from their wonderfully simple form.
And when the golden center is exposed?
It's absolutely luminous.

🤍 An American Heirloom from 1928
Krinkled White was introduced in 1928 by renowned Minnesota peony breeder A.M. Brand.
Even in early evaluations, the variety stood out. It was described as having excellent form and was considered among the finest white single peonies of its era.
Nearly a century later, it continues to prove why.
The American Peony Society awarded Krinkled White its Award of Landscape Merit in 2009, recognizing not simply the beauty of its flowers, but its outstanding performance as a garden plant.
🌿 A Peony That Knows How to Stand Up
Here's something we especially love about Krinkled White:
It doesn't need to flop to be beautiful.
Those enormous, heavily double peonies are irresistible, but after a spring rainstorm they sometimes need a little help staying upright.
Krinkled White is different.
Its lighter single flowers are carried on strong, slender stems that generally remain upright without staking.
Mature plants also produce numerous side buds, helping extend the flowering period rather than giving you one enormous flush all at once.
And in cool, wet weather, the opening flowers can even show a soft blush-pink tint before fading to white.
💛 Why Grace Rose Farm Loves It
This is the peony we'd plant between all those big doubles.
Krinkled White gives the garden somewhere to breathe.
Its open white flowers bring lightness and movement to a planting filled with densely petaled varieties like Charlie’s White, Duchesse de Nemours and Felix Supreme.
And that exposed golden center makes it especially beautiful in a naturalistic cutting garden.
There's something wonderfully unfussy about it.
White petals.
Golden stamens.
A little crinkle around the edges.
Sometimes simple really is spectacular.
🌿 Planting & Care
Plant peony roots in full sun and fertile, well-drained soil. Position the root so the eyes are only about 1–2 inches below the finished soil surface. Peonies planted too deeply may grow beautiful foliage but produce few or no flowers.
Space plants approximately 3 feet apart and water deeply after planting.
Krinkled White is known for being a particularly dependable landscape peony. Once established, its strong stems generally require little support, and mature plants can produce numerous side buds for an extended floral display.
Give it time to settle in.
Peonies aren't interested in being rushed—but once established, they can become one of the longest-lived plants in your garden.
