About Easy Elegance® Kashmir Bare Root Rose Bush
Rosa ‘BAImir’ — Easy Elegance® Kashmir
🧬 Breeder: Ping Lim / Easy Elegance® Roses
🌹 Rose Type: Shrub Rose
❤️ Velvety red, 50-petal flowers with the look of a Hybrid Tea—on a hardy shrub that doesn't expect to be treated like one.
If what you really want is a classic red rose, Kashmir makes a very convincing argument.
Its rich, velvety dark-red flowers have the elegant appearance we associate with traditional Hybrid Tea roses, but they're produced on a compact, rounded shrub bred for much easier garden performance.
Each very full flower measures approximately 3 inches across and contains around 50 petals.
That's a lot of rose packed into one bloom.
And because Kashmir is a recurrent bloomer, those lush red flowers return throughout the growing season against glossy green foliage.
Best of all, Kashmir is hardy through USDA Zone 4.
Classic red rose beauty.
Modern shrub-rose practicality.
That's a combination worth making room for.

❤️ The Classic Red Rose—Without All the Fuss
There's something timeless about a dark-red rose.
And Kashmir absolutely understands the assignment.
The flowers are rich and velvety, with the full, refined appearance of a traditional Hybrid Tea.
But instead of putting those flowers on a demanding exhibition-style plant, Kashmir grows as a naturally rounded shrub.
That's exactly what makes it so useful.
You get the look of a classic cutting rose with a plant designed to actually live comfortably in the landscape.
A little less fuss. A lot more red roses.
🌹 50 Petals of Velvet
Kashmir's flowers contain approximately 50 petals.
That generous petal count creates blooms that feel substantially fuller and more luxurious than many landscape shrub roses.
And the texture matters, too.
Bailey describes the blossoms as velvety and even compares their softness to cashmere.
Which explains the name perfectly.
Rich color.
Soft-looking petals.
Beautifully full flowers.
Kashmir really does look dressed for the occasion.
✂️ Grow This One for the Vase
Kashmir isn't just a landscape rose.
It's specifically recommended as a cut flower.
Those full red blooms have exactly the classic appearance you want when bringing roses indoors.
Cut several for a monochromatic red arrangement.
Mix them with creamy white roses for contrast.
Or combine Kashmir with blush, apricot, lavender, or deep burgundy varieties for a more dramatic garden-grown bouquet.
Sometimes you plant a rose to admire from the patio.
Sometimes you plant one because you know you're going to steal half the flowers for the kitchen table.
Kashmir is definitely the second kind.
🏡 A Natural Low Hedge
Its growth habit gives Kashmir another particularly useful role.
The plant develops into an evenly rounded shrub approximately 3–4 feet tall and 2–3 feet wide.
Plant several together and you've got the makings of a beautiful flowering low hedge.
Imagine a row of velvety red roses:
Along a front walkway.
Around a terrace.
At the edge of a cutting garden.
Or repeating through a larger mixed border.
That naturally rounded form means the plants can create structure in the landscape even when they aren't at peak bloom.
❄️ Red Roses for Cold-Climate Gardens
One of Kashmir's most useful characteristics is its cold hardiness.
It's rated for USDA Zones 4–9.
For gardeners in colder climates, that's a big deal.
You aren't sacrificing that romantic, full-petaled red rose look just because winter temperatures get serious.
Kashmir was bred to combine classic rose beauty with the hardiness expected from the Easy Elegance® collection.
🧬 Bred by Ping Lim
Kashmir comes from the breeding work of renowned rose hybridizer Ping Lim.
His work has focused heavily on solving one of the great frustrations of rose gardening:
Why should gardeners have to choose between roses that are beautiful and roses that are good garden plants?
Kashmir brings those two worlds together.
The flower says:
Hybrid Tea.
The plant says:
Relax. I've got this.
🌹 The Easy Elegance® Difference
Easy Elegance® roses were developed around practical garden performance.
The collection emphasizes roses that combine:
Classic flower beauty
Repeat blooming
Cold hardiness
Disease resistance
Attractive landscape habits
Reduced maintenance
Kashmir might be one of the best examples of that philosophy because its flowers look so traditionally “rose.”
It's proof that an easier-care landscape rose doesn't have to look like one.
💛 Why Grace Rose Farm Loves It
Kashmir is the little black dress of red roses.
Classic.
Velvety.
Elegant.
And somehow appropriate almost anywhere.
We love that the flowers have around 50 petals and the full look of a Hybrid Tea, because this doesn't feel like a compromise rose.
You aren't choosing hardiness instead of beauty.
You're getting both.
It's hardy through Zone 4.
It grows into a manageable 3–4-foot rounded shrub.
It repeat blooms.
And those flowers are beautiful enough to cut and bring inside.
If someone tells us they want a classic red rose but they're intimidated by growing traditional Hybrid Teas?
This is exactly the kind of rose we'd show them.
🌿 Growing & Care Recommendations
Planting Site: Choose a location receiving at least 6 hours of full sun each day.
Soil: Plant in fertile, well-drained soil. Kashmir performs best when soil moisture remains reasonably consistent without becoming waterlogged.
Spacing: Allow approximately 2½–3 feet between plants for a dense planting or low hedge, with additional room if you prefer individually defined shrubs.
Watering: Water deeply after planting and maintain even moisture while your bare-root rose develops its new root system.
Pruning: Once established, prune in early spring, primarily removing dead, damaged, weak, or crossing stems. Extensive pruning isn't necessary to maintain its naturally rounded habit.
Fertilizing: Kashmir doesn't require heavy feeding, but a balanced, slow-release rose fertilizer can be applied when new leafy growth begins in spring.
Cutting: Harvest flowers as they begin to open for arrangements. Cutting flowers also encourages you to actually enjoy the rose indoors—which is half the fun.
Low Hedge: Repeat Kashmir along a walkway or garden edge to create a compact flowering hedge filled with rich red blooms.
