About First Editions® Campfire Bare Root Rose Bush
Rosa ‘CA 29’ — First Editions® Campfire PP24,435
Type: Shrub Rose | Collection: Canadian Artist Rose | Hardiness: Zones 3–7
🔥 Yellow, rosy pink and red mingle together like glowing embers—Campfire is an exceptionally hardy Canadian rose that lights up the garden until frost.
Campfire is a compact shrub rose with a color story that perfectly suits its name. Red-and-yellow buds open into semi-double yellow flowers edged in deep rosy pink. As the season progresses, the pink becomes increasingly prominent, creating a warm blend of yellow, coral-pink and deep rose across the plant.
The flowers appear continuously from summer until frost against glossy, dark-green foliage with excellent disease resistance. Campfire grows into a tidy, upright mound approximately 3 feet tall and wide, and its stems are unusually smooth with only occasional short thorns.

🎨 The Story Behind Campfire
Campfire belongs to the Canadian Artist Rose series, and its name has a wonderful connection to Canadian art history.
The rose honors Tom Thomson, one of Canada's most influential landscape painters, and takes its name from his painting Campfire. Thomson's work became famous for capturing the intense colors and rugged beauty of the Canadian landscape.
The rose feels remarkably appropriate.
Its yellow flowers edged in deepening rosy pink resemble the glowing colors of a fire—yellow flames surrounded by pink, red and ember-like tones. As temperatures and the season change, the balance of color across the flowers changes too, making an established plant look almost as though it has been painted.
Campfire also has genuine Canadian breeding credentials. It was developed from My Hero™ × Frontenac through the Canadian rose-breeding program at the Morden Research Station.
💛 Why Grace Rose Farm Loves It
Campfire looks like glowing embers scattered across the garden.
We love the way its color evolves. A single plant can carry yellow, pink and deeper rose tones simultaneously, giving it much more dimension than a traditional solid-colored landscape rose.
But its toughness may be even more impressive than its color. Campfire is hardy through Zone 3, has excellent disease resistance, blooms until frost, and stays at a very manageable 3 feet tall and wide.
Add its Canadian art history and nearly thornless stems, and this becomes much more than another pretty landscape rose.
It's a rose with a story worth telling.
🌿 Growing & Care
Plant Campfire in full sun and well-drained soil. Water deeply while your bare-root rose establishes, then maintain moderate moisture during extended dry periods.
Its naturally compact, rounded habit requires relatively little shaping. Prune in early spring to remove dead, damaged or crossing stems and lightly shape as needed.
Campfire is particularly useful for cold-climate gardens, where its Zone 3 hardiness gives gardeners a colorful repeat-blooming rose without sacrificing winter durability. Plant several together for a glowing mass of warm color, or use one near a walkway where you can appreciate the changing colors up close.
