It was later introduced in Australia as China Doll, Cl., before being introduced to American gardeners by Weeks Wholesale Rose Grower in 1977 as Weeping China Doll.

Its parent variety, China Doll, is a compact Polyantha known for producing profuse clusters of petite pink flowers. Weeping China Doll retained that wonderful flowering character but developed much longer canes, turning a compact rose into a dramatic cascading form.
