About LA Dreamin'® Hydrangea
Product Description
LA Dreamin'® Hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla 'Lindsey Ann') is a lovely garden companion selected for its ability to enhance the romance, texture, and seasonal beauty of a rose garden. With its compact reblooming habit, serrated dark green leaves, and rounded panicles that bloom on both old and new wood — displaying pink, blue, and lavender all on the same plant simultaneously, regardless of soil pH — this bigleaf hydrangea brings a uniquely multi-colored charm while helping create a fuller, more layered planting design.
Unlike most hydrangeas whose color is determined by soil pH, LA Dreamin'® produces its full rainbow of pink, blue, and lavender blooms naturally on every plant. Its butterfly-attracting flowers bloom from summer until the first frost, making it one of the longest-blooming companions in the rose garden.
Maintenance Needs
- Watering: Prefers rich, moist, well-drained soil. Mulch to maintain moisture. Tolerates clay soils.
- Soil: Rich, moist, well-drained. Bloom color is not pH-dependent — pink, blue, and lavender appear simultaneously on every plant.
- Pruning: Prune lightly after flowering if needed. Blooms on both old and new wood.
- Fertilizing: Feed in spring with a balanced fertilizer formulated for flowering shrubs.
- Winter Care: Hardy to Zone 5; mulch soil to overwinter in colder climates.
- Pest & Disease: Slight susceptibility to bud blight, wilt, leaf spot, and mildew. Aphids are occasional problems.
Landscape Uses
LA Dreamin'® Hydrangea is a versatile, compact shrub that fits beautifully into a wide range of garden styles and settings.
How to Use LA Dreamin'® with Roses
LA Dreamin'® pairs beautifully with roses by adding a unique multi-colored display, texture, and extended seasonal interest. Its simultaneous pink, blue, and lavender blooms create a naturally harmonious complement to virtually any rose color palette — no soil adjustments needed. Its compact reblooming habit keeps the garden vibrant from summer until the first frost, long after many roses have finished their main flush.
- Use beside or behind roses for a unique pink-blue-lavender multi-color display.
- Plant near roses of any color — the multi-hue blooms complement every palette.
- Choose for gardens where a long bloom season from summer to frost is a priority.
- Pair with Deutzia, Dogwood, or Hosta for a layered companion planting scheme.
- Allow 2.5 feet of spacing so the compact habit does not crowd adjacent roses.
