About Incrediball® Smooth Hydrangea
Product Description
Incrediball® Smooth Hydrangea (Hydrangea arborescens 'Abetwo') is a lovely garden companion selected for its ability to enhance the romance, texture, and seasonal beauty of a rose garden. With its serrated jade green foliage and massive soft white panicle ball blooms on sturdy non-flopping stems from midsummer until the first frost, this reblooming native North American shrub brings bold, luminous charm while helping create a fuller, more layered planting design.
A self-cleaning variety that requires no deadheading, Incrediball® is one of the most low-effort companions available. Its massive blooms attract butterflies and pollinators, and its exceptional cold hardiness to Zone 3 makes it suitable for gardens across the country.
Maintenance Needs
- Watering: Prefers rich, moist, well-drained soil. Tolerates clay and wet soils. Mulch to maintain moisture.
- Soil: Rich, moist, well-drained. Tolerates clay soils.
- Pruning: Prune in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. Self-cleaning — no deadheading needed.
- Fertilizing: Feed lightly in spring with a balanced fertilizer.
- Winter Care: Exceptionally cold hardy to Zone 3. Mulch soil to overwinter in colder climates.
- Pest & Disease: Slight susceptibility to bud blight, wilt, leaf spot, and mildew. Aphids are occasional problems.
Landscape Uses
Incrediball® Smooth Hydrangea is a versatile, bold-blooming shrub that fits beautifully into a wide range of garden styles and settings.
How to Use Incrediball® with Roses
Incrediball® pairs beautifully with roses by adding bold contrast, texture, and extended seasonal interest. Its massive white ball blooms create a dramatic backdrop that makes rose colors pop, while its midsummer-to-frost bloom season fills the garden with beauty between and after rose flushes. The self-cleaning habit means less maintenance — more time to enjoy the garden.
- Use beside or behind roses for a bold, massive white ball bloom display.
- Plant near roses of any color — white complements every palette.
- Choose for northern gardens where cold hardiness to Zone 3 is needed.
- Cut blooms for large, dramatic fresh arrangements alongside rose flowers.
- Allow 4 feet of spacing so the spreading habit does not crowd adjacent roses.
