With its rounded habit, striking lemon-lime foliage that holds its color through fall, and upright panicles smothered in tiny fragrant white flowers for two weeks in early spring, this compact deciduous shrub brings luminous color and charm while helping create a fuller, more layered planting design.
Whether tucked along the edge of a rose bed, massed in a border, or grown in a container near a garden entrance, Chardonnay Pearls® Deutzia adds dimension and garden magic. Maintenance Needs
- Watering: Moderate water needs; keep soil consistently moist and well-drained, especially during establishment.
- Soil: Prefers moist, well-drained soil. Tolerates urban conditions.
- Pruning: Prune immediately after flowering each year — annual pruning is recommended due to the short life of stems. Do not prune in fall or winter as this removes next year’s buds.
- Fertilizing: Feed lightly in early spring before new growth begins.
- Winter Care: Hardy to Zone 5; no special winter protection needed in most climates.
- Pest & Disease: Some susceptibility to leaf spot. Watch for leaf miners and aphids.
